PaperShip comes to the Mac

Monday, 3 March 2014 in PaperShip by Vincent Tourraine

PaperShip, the popular iPad and iPhone reference manager for students and scientists, is now available as a desktop application, bringing the same simplicity and efficiency to the Mac.

Lyon, France — March 3rd, 2014

Shazino announces PaperShip for Mac, a better way for scientists to annotate, manage, and share their papers on the desktop, as well as PaperShip 3, an update for the iPad and iPhone application to access their library everywhere.

Designed specifically for the Mac, PaperShip syncs with the user Mendeley or Zotero library, providing access to his documents. It also imports new references directly from the Mendeley catalog or from the web, and automatically downloads full text PDFs when available. Each PDF can be annotated and highlighted, then stored back within the library. Annotated documents can also be shared via email, text messages, Apple AirDrop, Facebook, and Twitter.

PaperShip for Mac includes a user-friendly interface designed as an email inbox. Papers are saved within the library and organized in folders. Each one of them can be marked as “read” or “unread” as well as favorited. A search feature with the possibility to filter by title, author, and keywords is also available. The document associated data and notes can be edited and synced back to Mendeley or Zotero.

Finally, PaperShip displays the significance of publications by providing web-based metrics known as altmetrics. Online activities around a scholarly work are taken into account, such as the number of times a paper had been downloaded. With PaperShip, even non-peer-reviewed literature impact is measured, including Open Access publications. For such needs, the donut-shaped graphic from Altmetric is added to the PaperShip interface via its application programming interface (API).

PaperShip for Mac is available now for $9.99 on the Mac App Store.

PaperShip 3 for iPad and iPhone is available now for free on the App Store. It also offers advanced PDF annotations tools (notes, highlights, drawings, etc.) through an in-app purchase.
